Hindi to English Translation Exercise 59… ये ऐक्सरसाइज़ Hindi to English Translation Book से ली गयी है, जो कि नीचे दिये गये “Spoken English Guru” English Speaking Course की पुस्तकों में से एक है।

डिम्पी नाम की एक लड़की थी जो कोलकाता में रहती थी, इतने बड़े शहर में उसका एक बहुत ही आलीशान घर था। उसके पिताजी व्यापारी थे, उनकी सोने और चाँदी की दुकान थी। डिम्पी वैसे तो बहुत समझदार थी लेकिन वह बिजली बहुत बर्बाद करती थी, कभी भी पंखा या लाइट खोल कर निकल जाती थी। उसके पिता और माँ उसे हमेशा समझाते रहते कि बिजली बहुत कीमती है, हमें हमेशा बिजली की बचत करनी चाहिए। एक बार क्या हुआ कि डिम्पी के कॉलेज का एक बहुत ही ज़रूरी प्रेजेंटेशन था, उसके कॉलेज के बहुत ही सीनियर टीचर और उनके साथ – साथ कुछ ख़ास मेहमान भी आमंत्रित थे। डिम्पी को उस प्रेजेंटेशन का हेड चुना गया था, वह काफी अच्छा बोलती थी और इसी लिए उसे चुना भी गया था। इस प्रेजेंटेशन का खुद डिम्पी को भी कई महीनों से इंतज़ार था, इतने लम्बे इंतज़ार के बाद आखिर वो बड़ा दिन आने ही वाला था। डिम्पी ने पूरी तैयारी कर ली, बोलने का अभ्यास हो या फिर चेहरे के हाव-भाव, डिम्पी ने पूरी तैयारी कर ली थी। प्रेजेंटेशन सुबह आठ बजे से थी, डिम्पी ने एक रात पहले सोचा कि वह नौ बजे सो जाएगी और सुबह छः बजे उठ जाएगी। खाना खाते – खाते उसे साढ़े नौ बज गए, सोते समय ही उसके दोस्त का फोन आया कि कॉलेज से एक बहुत ही ज़रूरी काम आया है, डिम्पी ने तुरंत ही अपनी लैपटॉप निकला और काम करना शुरू कर दिया। पूरे दो घंटे बाद उसका काम ख़त्म हुआ, वह अब बहुत ही ज़्यादा थक चुकी थी, इतना ज़्यादा थकी हुई थी कि अपने बिस्तर से उठ कर टेबल पर लैपटॉप चार्ज पर लगाने का भी मन नहीं कर रहा था उसे। उसने सोचा कि लैपटॉप तो उस समय भी चार्ज हो जायेगा या फिर सुबह उठ कर  वह चार्ज में लगा देगी। देर तक काम करने के कारण उसे सोने में देर हो गयी थी, सुबह छः बजे जब अलार्म बजा तब बहुत नींद में होने के कारण उसकी नींद नहीं खुली। आखिर सात बजे जब डिम्पी की नींद खुली तो वह जल्दी-जल्दी तैयार हुई, इन सब के बीच लेकिन वो अपना लैपटॉप चार्ज करना भूल गयी। प्रेजेंटेशन से पहले, आठ बजने से कुछ 10 मिनट पहले ही बिजली चली गयी, डिम्पी ने तुरंत लैपटॉप चलने की कोशिश की, लैपटॉप की बैटरी पूरी तरह से ख़त्म होने के कारण वह चालू भी नहीं हो रहा था। डिम्पी के प्राण सूखने लगे।

Translation

There was a girl named Dimpy who lived in Kolkata, she had a very luxurious house in such a big city. Her father was a businessman, he owned a jewellery shop. Dimpy was very sensible, but she wasted electricity a lot, she often used to go out without switching off the lights and fan at times. Her father and mother always kept explaining to him that electricity is very valuable, we should always save electricity. What happened once was that Dimpy had a very important presentation in his college, with a very senior teacher from his college and a few special guests invited along with him. Dimpy was chosen as the head of the presentation, she spoke very well and that is why she was actually chosen. Dimpy herself was waiting for this presentation for several months, after being waiting for it for such a long time, the big day was about to come. Dimpy had done all the preparations, speaking/oratory practice or facial expressions, Dimpy had done all the preparations. The presentation was from eight o’clock in the morning, Dimpy thought a night before that she would go to sleep at nine and get up at six in the morning. It was half-past nine while she finished her meals when she was about to sleep she got a call from her friend that an urgent work had been assigned from college, Dimpy immediately took out his laptop and started working. After two hours, she finished her work, she was very tired now, so much so that she did not even feel like getting up from her bed and putting her laptop in charge on the table. She thought that the laptop could be charged at that time too or else she would wake up in the morning and plug it in charge. He was late to sleep due to working till late when the alarm rang at six o’clock in the morning; she could not wake up due to being in deep sleep. Finally, at seven o’clock when Dimpy woke up, she got ready quickly, but amidst all this, she forgot to charge her laptop. Before the presentation, the power went out for some 10 minutes before eight o’clock, Dimpy immediately tried to run the laptop, it was not even starting/getting switched on as the laptop’s battery was completely exhausted. Dimpy’s heart began to sink.
