Laborious (adj.) – लेबोरिअस – मेहनती – Hardwoking / Industrious

• प्रथम गरीब घर से ज़रूर है लेकिन बहुत ही ज़्यादा मेहनती है।
  Though Pratham is from a low-income family, yet he is very laborious.
  
  
• मेहनती काफी सारे लोग होते हैं, लेकिन कभी – कभी सफल होने के लिये किस्मत का भी साथ चाहिए होता।
  Many people are laborious, but sometimes to succeed, we need the luck to go our way as well.

Lack (n.) – लैक – कमी / अभाव – Lapse / Loophole / Shortage / Insufficiency

• प्रशांत वैसे तो पढ़ाई में बहुत अच्छा है लेकिन वो गणित में मेहनत करने में थोड़ी कमी करता है।
  Though Prashant is good at studies, he lacks hard work in the field of mathematics.
  
  
• तेल की कमी के कारण, फ़ैक्टरी में कई महीनों से काम बंद पड़ा है।
  Due to the lack of oil, the production has not been going on in the factory for many months.
  
  
• पैसे की कमी के कारण निशा विदेश में पढ़ाई नहीं कर सकी।
  Nisha couldn’t study abroad due to lack of money.
  
  
• ऑक्सीजन के अभाव में पर्वतारोहियों की मृत्यु हो गई।
  The mountaineers died due to lack of oxygen.

Lad (n.) – लैड – लड़का – Boy

• शर्मा जी का लड़का बहुत ही होनहार है , पहली बार में कैट की परीक्षा में सफल हो गया।
  Mr. Sharma’s lad is very sincere; he cleared the CAT examination in his very first attempt.
  
  
• अंशुल के लड़के ने कल ही तनेजा की बेटी से शादी कर ली।
  Anshul’s lad got married to Taneja’s daughter yesterday.

Lame (n.) – लेम – लंगड़ा – Limp / Crippled

• कारगिल की लड़ाई में कई सैनिक लंगड़े हो गए क्योंकि उनका पैर बुरी तरह ज़ख़्मी हो गया था।
  Many soldiers got lame in the war of Kargil as their legs got severely injured.
  
  
• पोलियो की दवाई नहीं लेने के कारण, विश्व भर में कई बच्चे बड़े होकर लंगड़े हो जाते हैं।
  Many kids all over the world become lame as they grow up because they don’t get the dose of the Polio vaccine.

Lament (n.) – लेमेंट – शोक / अफ़सोस – Mourning / Condolence

• समय रहते मेहनत कर लेनी चाहिए अन्य-था बाद में अफ़सोस के अलावा कुछ नहीं कर सकते।
  We should work when we have time on our side, and else we will be able to lament over and do nothing.
  
  
• नकुल को अपने ग़लतियों का बहुत अफ़सोस है।
  Nakul is lamenting his mistakes.

Language (n.) – लैन्ग्वेज – बोली/ भाषा/ ज़बान – Talk/ Slang/ Speech

• मैं एक नई भाषा सीखना चाहता हूँ।
  I want to learn a new language.
  
  
• आपकी मातृभाषा क्या है?
  What is your native language? / What is your mother tongue?

Latter (adj.) – लैटर – बाद वाला – Last / Late / Second-half / Succeeding

• खेल का बाद वाला भाग बहुत ही रोमांचक था।
  The latter-half of the game was very exciting.
  
  
• दो विकल्पों में से, मैं हमेशा बाद वाला पसंद करता हूँ।
  Out of the two choices, I always prefer the latter.

Laud (adj.) – लॉड – प्रशंसा – Appreciate / Applaud

• जिस तरह का बेहतरीन प्रदर्शन श्याम ने किया , वह प्रशंसा का पात्र है।
  For the brilliant performance that Shyam did, he deserves all the lauding.
  
  
• अंबुज ने एक नयी सोच के साथ एक एप बनाया जिससे जनता ने बहुत सराहा और उसे काफी प्रशंसा मिली।
  Ambuj made an app with a new idea that was lauded by the public, and he also got a huge appreciation for it.

Lavish (adj.) – लैविश – विलासिता पूर्ण – Gracious / Thriftless

• एक बार पैसा और शोहरत आ जाये, उसके बाद विलासिता पूर्ण जीवन निश्चित है।
  Once money and fame come; after that, lavish life is inevitable.
  
  
• हमें अपनी ज़रूरतों को ध्यान में रखकर खर्च करना चाहिए, विलासिता पूर्ण जीवन जीने की चाह में कंगाल होना भी सही नहीं है।
  While spending, we should always keep in mind our needs; it is not acceptable to be bankrupt by desiring to live a lavish life.

Lead (n.& adj.) – लेड / लीड – लेड / मुख्य – A metal (Lead) / Main

• सोना लेड से ज़्यादा महंगा होता है।
  Gold is more expensive than lead.
  
  
• अमिताभ बच्चन अक्सर फिल्मों में मुख्य किरदार निभाते हैं।
  Amitabh Bachchan often plays lead role in movies.

Leak (n. & v.) – लीक – रिसाव / प्रकट कर देना – Drip / To disclose

• एक छोटा सा रिसाव भी एक बड़े जहाज को डुबो सकता है।
  Even a small leak can make a large ship sink.
  
  
• गुप्‍तचर ने सरकार की गोपनीय जानकारी सोशल मीडिया में प्रकट कर दी।
  The Detective leaked the confidential information of the government on social media.

Leap (vt.) – लीप – कूदना / उछलना – Hop / Jump

• सिमी ने इतनी लंबी छलांग लगायी कि सब देख कर हैरान रह गए।
  Simi made such a great leap, seeing which everyone was left shell shocked.
  
  
• धोनी की ज़िंदगी इस बात का सबूत है कि अगर इंसान चाहे तो छलांग बहुत लंबी लगा सकता है।
  Dhoni’s life is evidence of the fact that if a person wants, then he can make a great leap.

Learned (adj.) – लर्नेड – शिक्षित / विद्वान – Educated / Scholar

• कोई भी जन्‍म से विद्वान या शिक्षित नहीं होता।
  No one is born learned or educated.
  
  
• एक विद्वान व्यक्ति का हर जगह सम्मान होता है।
  A learned person is respected everywhere.

Leave (v.) – लीव – चले जाना / छोड़ना  – To depart / To quit

• सुरेश लाइट बंद किए बगैर कमरे से चला जाता है।
  Suresh leaves the room without turning off the light.

  Please leave this page blank!

Legible – लेजिबल – साफ़ सुथरा / जो आसानी से पढ़ा जा सके – Readable / Clear

• परीक्षा में साफ़ – साफ़ लिखने को कहा जाता है जिससे कि शिक्षक को उत्तर समझने में कोई परेशानी न हो।
  It is advised to write in legible writing during the exams so that the teacher doesn’t face any problems while understanding the answers.

• बचपन से लिखावट पर ध्यान देना चाहिए, नहीं तो आगे चलकर साफ़ लिखना बहुत मुश्किल होता है।
  We should focus on handwriting since childhood else it’s complicated to write in legible handwriting when we grow up.

Leisure (n.) – लैज़र – खाली समय / फुरसत – Free time / Break

• आप अपने खाली समय में क्या करते हैं?
  What do you do in your leisure time?
  
  
• दफ्तर के कर्मचारी अपने फुर्सत के पलों का आनन्द ले रहे हैं।
  The office employees are enjoying their leisure time.

Lend (v.) – लैन्ड – उधार देना /  प्रस्‍ताव देना –  To Borrow / To offer

• क्‍या आज आप मुझे अपनी कार उधार दे सकते हैं?
  Can you lend me your car today?
  
  
• हमें ज़रूरतमंद लोगों को मदद का प्रस्‍ताव देने के लिए तैयार रहना चाहिए।
  We should be ready to lend a helping hand to the needy people.

Lengthy (adj.) – लैन्दी – लम्बा – Long

• विकास ने अपने दोस्त की याद में बहुत ही लंबी सी एक कविता लिखी है।
  Vikas wrote a very lengthy poem in the memory of his friend.
  
  
• यह किताब को पढ़ने में काफी समय लगेगा क्योंकि यह काफी लंबी है।
  It will take a long time to read this book as it is quite lengthy.

Leniency (n.) – लिनियंसी – नरमी – Generosity

• जब पुलिस ने देखा कि चोर काफी मजबूर है तो नरमी दिखा कर, उसे थोड़ा समझा कर रिहा कर दिया।
  When the police saw that the thief was hapless, then they showed some leniency and released him after explaining things to him.
  
  
• कभी – कभी हमें मौके की नज़ाकत को देखकर, थोड़ी नरमी बरतनी पड़ती है।
  Sometimes we have to give a bit leniency, keeping the situation in mind.

Lessen (v.) – लैसन – कम कर देना – to make less/ to diminish

• इस दवाई ने मेरा दर्द कम कर दिया।
  This medicine lessened my pain.
  
  
• बच्चों को आसपास खेलते देखना टेंशन कम कर देता है।
  Seeing the kids playing around lessens one’s tension.

Let (v.) – लैट – करने देना / चलो – To allow

• कभी भी दूसरों को अपनी जिंदगी पर नियंत्रण न करने दें।
  Never let others control your life.
  
  
• चलो, आज इंग्लिश पढ़ते हैं !
  Let’s study English today!

Lexicon (n.) – लेक्सिकन – शब्दकोष – Vocabulary / Dictionary / Lexicon

• शब्दकोष की मदद से हम कठिन शब्दों का अर्थ भी जान सकते हैं।
  With the help of a lexicon, we can understand the meaning of difficult words.
  
  
• कल ही सिद्धार्थ ने पुस्तकालय से हिंदी – अरबी की एक शब्दकोष ली है , शायद वह अरबी सीख रहा है।
  Yesterday, Siddharth issued a Hindi – Arabic lexicon from the library; he is probably learning Arabic.

Liability (n.) – लायबिलिटी – उत्तरदायित्व / ज़िम्मेदारी – Responsibility

• हमारे समाज को लड़कियों को एक ज़िम्मेदारी की नज़र से नहीं देखना चाहिए।
  Our society must not perceive the girls as a liability.
  
  
• अगर सुमित ने प्रत्युष से पैसे लिए थे तो पैसे लौटना उसकी ज़िम्मेदारी है।
  If Sumit had borrowed money from Pratyush, then it’s his liability to return the amount.

Liberate (vt.) – लिबरेट – मुक्त / रिहा – Make Free / Discharge

• जब तक इस देश का हर एक आदमी चैन की नींद और दो वक़्त की रोटी नहीं खा सकता, तब तक इस देश को गरीबी से मुक्त करना लगभग असंभव है।
  Till the time every citizen of the country is not able to sleep peacefully and make both ends meet; it is almost impossible to liberate the country from poverty.
  
  
• सीरिया में युद्ध के दौरान जब गोलीबारी शांत हुई तब अमेरिकी सेना ने खंडहर में फंसे लोगों को वहाँ से बाहर निकला और आतंकवादियों की कैद से मुक्त कराया।
  When the firing stopped during the war in Syria, the American troops helped the people in ruins and liberated them from the captivation of the terrorists.

Lift (v.) – लिफ्ट – लिफ्ट देना / उठाना – To provide lift / To raise

• क्या आप कृपया मुझे अपनी कार में लिफ्ट दे सकते हैं?
  Can you please give me a lift in your car?
  
  
• धनुष इतना भारी था कि रावण उसे उठा नहीं सका।
  The bow was so heavy that Ravana could not lift that.

Lighten (v.) – लाइटन – हल्का करना, उजाला करना – Mitigation / Illuminate

• ये कपडे निकालकर मैंने अपना बैग हल्का कर दिया है।
  I’ve lightened my bag by taking these clothes out.
  
  
• इस बल्ब से उसने अपने कमरे में उजाला कर दिया।
  He lightened his room with this bulb.

Limit (n. & v.) – लिमिट – सीमा / सीमित करना – Boundary / To restraint

• मानवीय इच्छाओं की कोई सीमा नहीं है।
  There is no limit of human desires.
  
  
• मेरी बेटी मोबाइल के उपयोग को सीमित करने पर सहमत हो गयी।
  My daughter agreed to limit the use of mobile.

Liquidate (vt.) – लिक्विडेट – हिसाब पूरा करना / क़र्ज़ चुकाना – Repay

• कंपनी जब बुरी तरह क़र्ज़ में डूब गयी तो उसे सबके पैसे लौटने के लिए उसके शेयर से हिसाब पूरा करने कहा गया।
  When the company got deep into the debt, then it had to liquidate its shares to return the money of all investors.
  
  
• रमेश ने अपने दोस्त से पैसे लेकर कर्ज चुकाया।
  Ramesh took out a loan to liquidate the debt.

Literally (adv.) – लिटरली – सचमुच/ शाब्‍दिक – Really / Textual

• कोविड 19 के भयानक वीडियो ने सचमुच मुझे रुला दिया।
  The terrible video of COVID 19 literally made me cry.
  
  
• आपको मुहावरों का शाब्दिक अनुवाद नहीं करना चाहिए।
  You should not translate the idioms literally.

Live (v. & adj.) – लिव – रहना (To reside)/ लाइव – सीधा प्रसारण (Real time broadcast)

• यूरोप में लोग शादी के बाद अपने माता-पिता के साथ नहीं रहते हैं।
  In Europe, people do not live with their parents after marriage.  
  
  
• विश्व कप क्रिकेट मैच का सीधा प्रसारण किया जाएगा।
  The World Cup cricket match will be broadcasted live.

Livestock – लाइवस्टॉक – मवेशी / जानवर – Animal / Cattle

• पहाड़ों पर लोग अक्सर मवेशी चराने का काम ही करते हैं।
  On the hills, people generally do the work of rearing livestock.
  
  
• जंगली कुत्ते और कई जंगली जानवर हमेशा मवेशी के पीछे पड़े रहते हैं।
  The wild dogs and many other wild animals are always behind the livestock.

Lockdown (n.) – लॉकडाउन – तालाबंदी / पूर्णबंदी – Curfew / Complete close-down

• कोरोना संक्रमण के खतरे के कारण कई देशों में तालाबंदी की गई है।
  Lockdown has been imposed in many countries due to the risk of Corona infection.
  
  
• दुनिया के सभी प्रमुख शहर कोविड -19 विश्‍वमारी के कारण पूर्णबंदी में हैं।
  All the major cities of the world are on lockdown due to COVID – 19 pandemic.

Lockup (n.) – लॉकअप – बंदीगृह – Prison

• जब मार- पीट के केस में कुणाल जेल गया था, उसका बड़ा भाई उसकी ज़मानत करने आया।
  When Kunal was sent to lockup following a brawl, he was released by his elder brother on his warranty.
  
  
• अक्सर चोर और बदमाश बंदी ग्रह में रखे जाते हैं।
  Often the thieves and the goons are kept in the lockup.

Lofty (adj.) – लौफ्टी – ऊँचा / बड़ा – Towering / Elevated

• गेंद थोड़ी सी आगे फेंकने पर, बल्लेबाज़ ने बहुत ही ज़ोर से ऊँचा शॉट हवा में खेल दिया।
  When the ball was pitched slightly up, the batsman smashed the ball to play a lofted shot.
  
  
• बड़ी मेहनत करने के बाद, आखिर में अखिलेश ने बहुत ही ऊँची छलांग लगायी।
  After lots of hard work, Akhilesh reached lofty heights on jumping in the end.

Longevity (n.) – लॉन्जीविटी – लम्बी उम्र – Long lived

• अच्छी सेहत और लंबी उम्र के लिए, ये बहुत ज़रूरी है कि हम रोज़ कसरत करें।
  For good health and longevity,  we must exercise daily.
  
  
• हर माँ अपने बच्चों की लंबी उम्र के लिए ईश्वर से हमेशा प्रार्थना करती है।
  Every mother prays to God for the longevity of her child’s life.

Longing (n.) – लॉन्गिंग – चाह / दिली इच्छा / ख्वाइश – Wish / Crave / Will

• शिल्पा की यह दिली ख्वाइश है कि वह अपने पूरे परिवार के साथ एक बार तिरुपति बालाजी के दर्शन करने जाए।
  It is Shilpa’s longing that she wants to visit Tirupati Balaji along with her full family.
  
  
• हर खिलाड़ी की यह दिली इच्छा होती है कि जीवन में एक बार वह अपने देश के लिए विश्व कप जीत पाए।
  Every player has a longing that he/she could be able to win the World Cup at least once for his country in his life.

Look forward to (prep. ph.) – लुक फॉरवर्ड टु – ख़ुशी से उम्मीद करना – To want

• मैं आपसे मिलने का बेसब्री से इन्तजार कर रहा हूँ।
  I am looking forward to meeting you.
  
  
• आप इस प्रोपर्टी को खरीदने की उम्मीद कर सकते हैं।
  You can look forward to buying this property.

Lucid (adj.) – ल्यूसिड – चमकीला / साफ़  – Bright / Clean / Clear

• यह पानी नहाने का है लेकिन इतना साफ़ है कि इसे पीने का मन हो रहा है।
  This water is for bathing, but it is so lucid that I am tempting me to drink it.
  
  
• मैं अभी कुछ भी फ़ालतू सुनना नहीं चाहता इसलिए अगर कुछ बोलना है तो साफ़ बोलो।
  I don’t want to listen to anything which is nonsense, so if you’re going to say something, then please be lucid about it.

Lucrative (adj.) – ल्यूक्रेटिव – फायदेमंद – Beneficial

• मोहन यह काम बस इसलिए करता है क्योंकि यह उसके जेब के लिए काफी फ़ायदेमंद है।
  Mohan only does this work because this job is very lucrative for his pocket.
  
  
• हिमांगी ने ये कंपनी इसलिए चुनी क्योंकि यहाँ उससे ज़्यादा पैसे मिल रहे थे जो कि फ़ायदेमंद है।
  Himangi didn’t choose this company because it was getting her more money, which is lucrative for her.

Lukewarm (adj.) – लुकवॉर्म – गुनगुना  – Warm

• जब हलकी ठंड होती है तो गुनगुने पानी से नहाने में मज़ा आता है।
  When it is a bit cold, then it feels good to bathe with lukewarm water.
  
  
• सुबह उठ कर गुनगुना पानी पीने से सेहत अच्छी रहती है और चुस्ती भी बनी रहती है।
  Drinking lukewarm water while you wake up in the morning keeps us healthy and active.

Lunacy (n.) – ल्यूनेसि – पागलपन – Madness

• अपनी टीम को समर्थन देने के लिए, उसका जुनून पागलपन में बदल चुका था।
  To support his team, his devotion had turned into lunacy.
  
  
• जिन लोगों को पागलपन का दौरा पड़ता है, उनसे हमें प्यार और आराम से बात करनी चाहिए।
  Those people who suffer lunatic attacks, we should treat them with love, care, and talk to them calmly.

Luxurious (adj.) – लग्ज़ूरिअस – विलासी / आनंदी – Abundant

• रतन टाटा जैसे महान लोग बहुत प्रेरणादायी हैं जो इतना पैसा होने के बाद भी विलासी जीवन के बजाय सादा जीवन जीते हैं।
  Great people like Ratan Tata are inspirational who, despite being so rich, live a simple life instead of a luxurious one.
  
  
• हर इंसान पैसा कमा कर विलासी जीवन जीना चाहता है ।
  Every human wants to live a luxurious life after earning money.
