Hindi to English Translation Exercise 14… ये ऐक्सरसाइज़ Hindi to English Translation Book से ली गयी है, जो कि नीचे दिये गये “Spoken English Guru” English Speaking Course की पुस्तकों में से एक है।

कभी मैं गाय को हरी सब्जियाँ खिला देता था, चींटी को चीनी, कौए को रोटी, बिल्ली को दूध, कुत्तों को माँस वगैरह वगैरह। लोग अक्सर पूछते थे, “क्यों करते हो?” वो कहते थे, “फल की इच्छा में किया गया कोई भी काम किसी काम का नहीं होता।” मैंने कभी बहस नहीं की, लेकिन हमेशा माना,”भले ही मैंने पुण्य की चाह में कुछ किया, कम से कम किया तो। मैं उनसे तो बेहतर हूँ, जिन्होंने कुछ नहीं किया।“

खिलाना – To feed/ fetch                  
वगैरह वगैरह – etc. / and so on
बहस करना – Argue                         
पुण्य की चाह – Sake of virtue

 

Translation

Sometimes I used to feed green vegetables to the cow, sugar to the ant, bread to the crow, milk to the cat, meat to the dogs, etc. People would often ask, “Why do you do this?” They would say, “Any work done in the desire of fruit is of no use.” I never argued but always believed, “Even if I did something for the sake of virtue/fruit, at least I did it. I’m better than those who did nothing.”
